Guidelines for Submission
Appomattox River Review will be open for submissions November 4th, open anyone who wants to submit!

​Keep in mind: ​
We appreciate obscurity and strangeness.
We encourage submissions from all backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, and races.
Creativity is a catalyst for our magazine, along with innovation and ingenuity.
Please keep graphic violence to a minimum.
As our readers are minors, please do not submit any graphic sexual content.
Genres
Flash fiction: under 1,000 words
1 piece maximum
Long form fiction: under 5,000 words
1 piece maximum
Creative nonfiction: under 5,000 words
1 piece maximum
Poetry: 3-5 poems maximum
No line limit
List all poem names in title of piece

Hybrid/cross-genre: under 5,000 words
1 piece maximum

ARR encourages hybrid submissions.
Please include a biography with your submission. Written in the third person, this should be kept under 100 words. It can incorporate important aspects of your life, fun hobbies, accomplishments or accolades.
​
Ex. Gail Giewont is a literary arts teacher at Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology, where ARR is produced. She is an accomplished poet and has published a chapbook, Vulture, available from Finishing Line Press. In her free time, Gail loves to hang out with her two dogs, Bee and Bob Barker.

Editing Services
Whether you were rejected from ARR, or are simply looking for an impartial voice, our team of award-winning writers would love to offer personalized feedback.
​
For a fee of just $5, our editors will work together to make effective edits and offer clear advice and praise. Correspondence will be conducted over email, and we guarantee you'll appreciate what we have to offer.

In the PayPal memo, please indicate that you are seeking our editing services and include the title of your piece.
Please mind our submission deadline for Issue II: February 4.

We will have your edited piece returned to you by February 18, along with your acceptance and rejection letter, after which you may email us a final draft by March 4. For initially rejected submissions, we will reconsider our decision upon receiving a final draft. ​If you were rejected from Issue I, please simply submit a newer revision of your prior submission and we will consider and edit it among the Issue II submissions, our process following the aforementioned timeline.

Those requesting editing services will be prioritized in our process of sending acceptances and rejections.

Possible Tax Deduction!
Donations keep ARR up and running! Donations over $7 are eligible to receive a charitable donation receipt, where we provide official documentation of a gift made by a donor. This donation is then qualified for a tax deduction!

Your receipt will be mailed by us, at ARR.
